Online Private Schools, why would you choose one?

Online Private schools, what do they have that regular schools don’t have now? When I was a parent, (many years ago in the 1970s and 80s) I sent my kids to a regular school. I felt, after going to the meetings where we as parents were told all about what our children were going to experience in this school, that they would be getting a good education. As a parent, I wanted my children to get the best education possible. I wanted them to be challenged academically, nurtured socially and emotionally, and prepared for a bright future. That was what was available at that time.

Regular education in public schools has changed

However, my children’s children weren’t getting that same type of education when they were sent to school. So, my youngest daughter chose to do home-schooling. I actually bought a lot of the curriculum from stores that carried that type of product. (However, that was Christian Education) My company has a curriculum that is accepted by the entire USA, so it is good for everyone.

I would visit her and realize that the children were getting an education that was largely on their own. Then, I would help them out when they came to me and asked a question, but mainly, it was copy sheets and reading books. My daughter was busy being a mom of 5 kids. Washing clothes, grocery shopping, cleaning, and making breakfast, lunch and dinner took up most of her time. I’m not saying they were getting a bad education, just one that was only successful if they didn’t have many questions.

The Challenge is, do you understand the schoolwork?

At Junior High, the kids went to regular school and did fairly well, so it must have worked ok. However, their mother had been able to stay at home with them. And, one thing that was important – She had been a teacher herself before she stay at home to have kids of her own.

That isn’t really possible for most parents. And, if they do decide to stay at home, they probably wouldn’t be able to give the good help that my daughter was able to give. And she didn’t even try to go any further than 6th grade, because she had been an elementary school teacher.

However, regular education has changed a lot!

Now, traditional public schools are really weird. They teach strange stuff, like sex education in 2nd grade. And, many states are very far down in their educational standards. When you look to see where they are, an awful lot of states are near or at the bottom of successful school success for their students.

That is because of many things.

  • Large class sizes which gives minimal one-on-one support for each child. (I became a special education teacher after my kids went on to college. I found many students that hadn’t been discovered needing extra help because they just kept quiet and didn’t ask for help.)
  • Standardized testing works for some students. But, definitely not all. And, creativity was just sucked right out of classrooms that only used that type of testing.
  • Teachers would allow bullying in their classrooms because they were trying to teach those that were interested and couldn’t take the time to make sure that everyone was on task.
  • And, schools have become unsafe. Not only the experiences of gun violence but also the unsafe bathroom situations.
  • School administrators were trying to please everyone and, quite often, end up pleasing no one. Especially those parents who want the same type of education they got when they went to school.

I realized that many of my younger friends, with kids still in school, needed to start looking around and checking out charter schools or private schools. When COVID happened, online private schools became a thing that people started checking out.

This organization has experience in Private Online Schooling

That is when I learned about this company – Brainfood Academy. It is a private online academy that is just starting now in the United States. It has been very successful in tutoring online in Australia for the last 7 years and, COVID didn’t bother it at all. In fact, their students did just as well or better than those that went to the regular public school COVID caused online teaching.

The way I learned about this is that I have been learning and teaching students about online marketing with this same company for the last six years. This is something new they just started here because of the changes in public education in the last several years.

That is why I am so excited about them bringing over to the USA, the experience they had in Australia.

Their Virtual classrooms were taught by accredited teachers that excelled in online teaching in other venues. Many of them had been teachers in areas that didn’t have regular schools, so they had the experience needed to make Virtual teaching something that worked for all their students. Their curriculum is generally more innovative. And they have greater flexibility in scheduling and the pace of learning. They have programs that will go at the student’s pace. So, if you have a child that is really smart, they can get through their classes more quickly.

Having the need to work, means that the parents could also have flexible times for their children to go to the classes. They only need to be at home in the evening, and doing their thing, while their children were getting excellent training at the time they were there. Also, this company offered programs in art, music, and foreign language classes which are the first things missing from our regular schools.

I think this is a huge draw for parents!

One of the biggest draws for me was the increased personalization an online academy provides. Coursework can adapt to each child’s strengths and challenges. Gifted students access more advanced materials. Those needing special guidance receive targeted support. Physical and social restrictions fade away in the virtual setting. It’s an education that works for all the children, not just those that are quiet, and sit in their seats and don’t cause trouble, or ask questions.

This also takes care of the safety part of the school. They are home. Not being exposed to bullying and negative peer pressure. Learning from home eliminates unsafe commutes, security risks, and exposure to violence or dangerous behaviors affecting many of our schools today. Now children could focus on growth and discovery free of disruption.

How do Students manage to make friends with Private Online schools?

The first thing I asked when my daughter started homeschooling was, what about enjoying other students that could become friends? In her area, the regular schools would come and pick up her kids and take them to the soccer areas because it was a big deal in that area of the state. However, this school does try very hard to bring friends into its curriculum by facilitating student discussion groups and other classroom ideas that help students become friends virtually. And, the kids spent more time with their parents, which is a good thing in most cases.

This new Brainfood Academy is something you might check out. It isn’t an easy choice to decide to make the switch from public to private school. But, after seeing what is happening in public education, I don’t think there is any choice. I saw that the children had thrived under a personalized online education model. They were challenged and it helped them become the best they could be.

Also, It was obvious that the children were ready for college at the end of the 12th grade and that was what really made the difference in my decision that this is the way to go. When children thrive under a personalized online education model, we know it was the right move. They are challenging themselves, exploring passions, and gaining real-world skills. We can’t wait to see where their futures lead, with the foundations being built now.
