Checking Risk Factors can make you money

I’m very aware of Risk Factors. My family has genetic challenges. I have genetic Thyroid problems. I even have genetic Asthma, as does one of my daughters. So, I have always been kind of interested in my health and how to make it better. When I was youg, I always knew what my blood pressure or cholesterol was. I even watched them carefully!! But, as I got busy with life, I took less interest and stopped checking it out.

However, As I got older, I had my tests done again.

When the tests came back, the doctor sat me down to explain what they meant. Turns out my blood pressure and cholesterol numbers were higher than they should be for my age. My A1C was also bordering on prediabetes. I had no clue!

The doctor said making some lifestyle changes could really turn my health outlook around. She recommended I start walking daily, even just 20-30 minutes to get my heart rate up. I should also cut down on fatty foods and eat more fruits, veggies and whole grains. She gave me a tracking sheet so I can monitor my blood pressure at home and keep an eye on it. Yuck. I hate tracking what I eat. I just wanted to see if my numbers were going down.

Then I found out how to check most of my risk factors every day!

I wanted to find out what would happen when I made some changes. As little as I could get away with was my ideal!!

Let me tell you, just making little changes has me feeling better already! I have more energy when I eat right, and I sleep better after an evening stroll. Checking my blood pressure at home helps me see it improving. My numbers are now low. Seeing that progress keeps me motivated.

I never realized just how much diet and exercise can impact your risk factors for things like heart disease or diabetes. It’s empowering to monitor my risk factors at home so I can catch any issues early. I feel more in control now that I’m informed about my body.

My doctor wants me to come back in 6 months to run all my tests over again. I can’t wait to see my numbers then! I know if I keep up my modified routine, they will show I’ve lowered my risks. The only one I couldn’t do was the A1C. But, that is something that you have to take every three months.

Taking small steps day by day has put me on the path toward better health. I didn’t have to make a lot of changes. I really didn’t have to do everything they told me I had to do. I would never have made it. But, Having this tracker has made the difference. I can see almost immediately if something I’m doing is making a difference.

This company (like Apple, Fitbit, and other health-related monitoring devices) sells your information to companies that use the information to determine insurance rates for health insurance and other uses. However, this company does something no one else does. They pay you for it!! Yup. They anonymize your information and pay you for the privilege of using that.
